SUMMIT CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

National Adolescent Reproductive Health Summit
The National
Population Council, with support from Marie Stopes International Ghana and
state
and civil society
partners is organizing the 2nd National Adolescent
Reproductive Health (ARH)
Summit. The ARH
Summit will among other things, review the progress of implementation of the
ARH policy and programmes, build consensus, and advocate for technical and
financial support for ARH programming in the country towards reaping
demographic dividend.

Population Management through Adolescent Sexual and
Reproductive
Health Financing Beyond Aid’’
• Date: August 29 -30, 2018
• Venue: Accra, Ghana.

Objectives
• To show the linkage between
effective population management and adolescent Sexual and
Reproductive Health
and Rights (ASRHR)
• To provide platforms for
partners to share knowledge and lessons on the implementation
of SRHR across the
country to help improve ASRHR policy, programming and advocacy.
• To promote young peoples’
ideas and innovations in population management and SRHR.
• To explore sustainable
financing for ASRHR beyond donor funding.
2.0
Abstract Submissions
In pursuit of the
above objectives, abstracts are invited from interested individuals and
organisations for
oral and poster presentations. The presentations will cover executed/ongoing
research or project
initiative(s) carried out by the applicant/organization.
2.1
Oral Presentations
These presentations
would be delivered during joint and/or concurrent panel sessions. For each
session, speakers
would first be invited to make their initial submissions. This would be
followed
by moderated
discussions and questions/inputs from the audience. Topics to be covered
include:
1. Population
Dynamics and Basic Demographic Concepts ( Population and
Development
Interlinkages) : This session will focus on the concept of demographic
transition and
demographic dividend, and their relationship with ASRHR. Abstracts and
presentations must
focus on the role of adolescent SRHR in achieving demographic
dividend.
2. Adolescent
SRHR Investment and Sustainable Financing: This session will
explore
sustainable ways of
financing ASRHR beyond donor funding. Abstracts and presentations
must explore
government’s role in ASRHR financing and its relationship with the concept
of demographic
dividend.
3. Comprehensive
Sexuality Education (CSE): This session will look at CSE for
adolescents in-school
and out of school and its usefulness in the Ghanaian context.
Abstracts and
presentations must centre on evidence – based strengths and weakness of
CSE implementation,
and how best we can approach it as a nation.
4. Adolescent
SRHR Advocacy: This session will address the question; how can young
people advocate,
campaign and build coalitions for SRHR? Abstracts and presentations
must focus on
evidence –based approaches to advocacy, addressing how adolescents can
get resources,
mobilize, and connect with other young leaders to form networks to
campaign for SRHR
issues in the country, community, school or organization.
5. Adolescent
SRHR Policies - This session discusses notable ASRHR policies and policy
changes, and how they
affect implementation of SRHR programmes for adolescents.
6. The
Media and ASRHR: This session will examine the role of the media in promoting
ASRHR. Speakers will
share knowledge on adolescent centered media programmes and
how they affect young
people. Abstracts addressing media engagement in ASRHR
programming and
advocacy are welcomed for this session.
7. ASRHR
in the Digital Era: This session will showcase how young people use
WhatsApp, Facebook,
Twitter, other social media handles, games and other softwares to
explore their
sexuality, seek SRH information and services, network for advocacy and
also hold duty
bearers accountable. Abstracts addressing any of these priority issues shall
be considered for the
session.
8. Adolescent Friendly
Service Delivery: This session will discuss effective and responsive
adolescent service
delivery across different delivery channels for different adolescent
groupings: in –
school, out of school, marginalized adolescents, migrants, adolescents
with disabilities and
special needs, adolescent minorities, refugees etc. Abstract
addressing the
subject matter shall be considered for the session.
2.2
Poster Presentations
Posters would be
exhibited throughout the period of the summit and can cover any of the topics
listed for oral
presentations
3.0
Participation
About 300
participants are expected at the summit. The summit will provide meals, summit
brochures, T-Shirts
and ID Tags for all participants. Successful speakers outside Accra will be
provided with
accommodation, transport subsidy and meals for the duration of the summit.
Participants outside
Accra would, however, need to make their own private arrangements for
transport and
accommodation.
3.1
Application Process
A call for abstracts
for both oral and poster presentations on any of the above themes is opened
from the 10th of
May 2018. The abstract should not be more than 500 words,
summarizing
introduction/problem
statement, objectives, methodology, results (or expected results), and
programme/policy
implications. Deadline for submission of entries is 30th June,
2018.
3.2
Registration for Summit
Participants may
indicate their interest in participating in the Summit, and also presenting an
abstracts are
required to upload their documents in pdf as part of their registration for the
Summit.
Priority in selection
will be given to young applicants (15-24yrs) who submitted strong but
unsuccessful
abstracts, or showed evidence of interest and experience in population
management
and/or ASRHR.
Deadline for online application is 30th June
2018.
